20 Hz, Phayao.

My wife and I visited Phayao to meet her father’s relatives, It’s been a year since her father passed away.
After visited her relatives, we got a message from our friend, Pang. She lives in Phayao and invited us to
20 Hz. It is a bar with a cheaper price of the drinks compare to Chiang Mai. No loud, no crowed just chilled around. We Just realized that it was a week day and we were the only group in the bar XD.

So, let’s see what I took it with, an ef 24-70 F4L is and an ef 50 1.4 with RP, again.
Since there was not many customers. We took the photo at the bar, the drums, the 2nd floor, and stairs.
The alcohol affected us a little, though. My hand were not steady and Pang couldn’t stay still. (still wonder that was it really the effect from alcohol ? XD)

CosplayPlus NSFW Event

Fun time for Adults (that are still younger inside)

Yes, due to my wife’s cosplay sessions, she gained some fans. My clients and friends, who had some photo sessions with me and live in Bangkok, insisted that we visit the event.

We decided to visit the CosplayPlus 4 that was held by Mr.Fox Live house, Bangkok with RP+EF 24-70 2.8L.

Raiden Shogun : My wife

All day tickets cost 800 thb each. There are options for both the day time (18+) and Evening (20+). For me, the day time event was not quite attractive. It was only 18+ rated. The cosplayers were still at their booth to service their customers (fans). A Two-shot photo, Cheki (2×3 or 4×6 photos / posters selling) All you can buy. OR “Try your luck” by buying Gachapons (Random eggs) and let’s see what prize you would have. (Lap pillow, let the cosplayer sit on your lap, ect.)

Yes it seems a little kinky, but fun for the (under age) fans.

At 5.00 pm, The staff cleared the Live house, Forced all visitors and us to leave the place of 30 minutes to prepare for the night event (20+)

Our friend warned us about this before. We thought that we could stay in the live house from noon till midnight. We assumed this because we got all-day tickets. (I left half a can of my beer on that table)

Beer ~ 1.5 USD/Can

6.00 pm. We were the very first group entering the event, then our friends welcomed us. Most of them are night time photographers / Exhibitors (they still kept my beer and seats!)

As a Thai, it’s a totally different world. It wasn’t the same as the swingers club, but it seems to be bikini / half naked party. Their costumes were more revealing (my wife also loves them). Their services were more attractive with an exclusive room (Special Service room)

More than half of my friends are photographers. (including staff roles) They allowed us to stay in their area, The photography area. (holy zone)

We had a very great time with other visitors / exhibitors. And YES the next event, CosplayPlus 5 1 Feb 2025 we’re on it !! (No more driving, We’ll go by plane)

Chiang Mai flood, a 50 1.4 appeared

My office…

In the early of October there are 2 times flood in my city. My camera and the equipment are fine, I took it with me.

After that, our office needs to be cleaned. So, I arranged the stuff that was filled with mud since my department is located near the river.

A day before flood

I found a VERY Similar object. I swiped the mud off from it.

The rubber fell off

A Yashica film camera with the lens on it. First, I didn’t realize what kind of lens was attached with. Come to think of it, that would be a manual lens for sure – Till I removed the filter off, the letters and numbers, a Carl Zeiss T* 50 1.4 planar was found.

I tried to find the equipment registered number, but nothing was found. So, I took all of them to the head department and asked him about the camera’s status.

The head department took a photo and sent it to a supplies admin.

“It already was stated as a damaged equipment before the flood. So, you’re free to have it.” He replied and gave me back the pile of mud with the camera.

Poor Yashica

It seems that the body is unable to repair, but the lens is still usable.

“The lens and camera, both have the same registered number. If one of them was stated as damaged, then both will be retired.” What a waste.

500 THB for cleaning and repairing the diaphragm blades. It’s a decent price for a manual lens. The owner of the repair shop said. He is a guy who repairs any manual lenses equally. He doesn’t care about cheap or expensive lenses and always calls the same price. (Replacement parts are exceptions)

Finally, he revealed the fine coating, the smooth focal ring and the diaphragm blades with CY mount – Carl Zeiss 50 1.4 is ready to use (CY to EOS adaptor was applied)

So clear

On the way back home – I rode my bike past the used Japanese imported goods. Found a boxes of lens cover, filters and the lens cap.

I hoped that I could find some cover and filter for Carl Zeiss. But, that day must be the day for all 50 1.4s, I was shaking and laughing to myself that I found EF 50 1.4’s hood (ES-71) for 3 USD and a cover for Carl Zeiss for 1 USD. It will be the day that I will remember till my last day. I dare to tell my wife the exact price of repairing 500 THB, 100 THB for a hood and 30 THB for a cover!!

Swapped back to EF 50 1.4, HUGE Change

Mostly text, it was 2 years that I used a Yongnou 50 1.4 Lens. Honestly, I’ve been looking for an EF 50 1.4 for a while. There are some reasons that I really wanted to swap the lens back;

1. The focusing speed is very slow in low light (good quality but slow).

2. Sometimes (Mostly), not in focus, even I lowered the F stops to 2.8 (Not sharp).

And, 3. It got a conflict if I used a flash. Do you still remember my flash? It is a Yongnou 568 exII.  They are the same brand, but they didn’t work together, if I attached the flash, the lens got an error code of err 01. Which means that the F stop won’t work, I still got the very bright images due to the lens diaphragm’s malfunction.

So, here is what I’ve tested on the old Canon body a 650D, still works both the flash and lens.

There are reasons and pros for me (and you) to use an EF 50 1.4 on Canon R series;

1. It has a lens profile, the Yongnou doesn’t have one, and even though they have a USB port for firmware update, the latest models that the firmware can support are 80D and 6DII.

2. It was a HUGE comeback for the 50 1.4 in performance. If you are using a DSLR, the  Yongnou might be suitable, but the EF 50 1.4 might not, since the wide aperture causes misfocusing, the image might not be sharp if your camera doesn’t have a micro adjustment. But for a R series, they don’t have a mirror for pre focus, it is just the image that goes directly to the sensor, so they have no micro adjustment function on R series. Even if the lens isn’t calibrated, the body’s sensor will always compute and operate the focusing motor of the lens by the final result on sensor directly. Which means that EF 50 1.4 are now more suitable in R series than old DSLR series.

Finally, 3. Price, Let’s compare the 50 stm and RF 50. They are no different, if the lens are in their top condition, RFs are a little better since they are newer, BUT 2x price of EF 50 1.8, why did I talk about 1.8? It about the price per performance, if you already have an EF converter, the price of RF 50 1.8 is the same of mint condition EF 50 1.4.  Then if we use the 50 1.4 we will get the benefits at low light and wider aperture, why don’t we have this? That’s why the 50 1.4 are quickly sold on Facebook marketplace, The R series users are looking for it. How about 50 1.2L? In my opinion the 1.2 L is too much for me to use, if the low light 1.4 in R series with a little more ISO is okay for me. Also the 1.2 might cause a misfocus. And the price …. Forget about it 🤣

That’s all for Today, I hope that This might help if you need to make decisions. BUT, please remember this “a good lens or camera is the ones that you already own” This is not A MUST if you are a hobbyist, but I need it because I work as a full time photographer, the Yongnou is not suitable for low low light such as a meeting room or evening/ night event. Please don’t waste your money for a little better. Cheers 📸🤪

Monthatarn fall

Recently, it’s burning season and it’s my job as a (main?) photographer of Department of National Parks.

There are many, many fire spot in my area; Chiang Mai – Lumphun province. All I have to do is
“Following the director and take some shots of those who stop the forest fire”

I’ve been down for some reason, I think it’s waste of time for this… I felt guilty
“Taking photos of someone “Pretends” to do something” is not good.

Yes, I breath too much of bad air quality. Burning season cause PM2.5

My health isn’t good, due to the bad air quality; PM2.5 was raising over 400 AQI. caused my nose bleed.

What about Monthatarn fall?

Sorry, I talked too much, it’s a water fall on the way to Doi Suthep Temple, where the director used this place to pretend that they stops the fire.

It’s not far away from the city, but it’s quite place, since it’s part of the National Park.
As a (main?) photographer, I’m now able to visit this without pay the entrance fee.

If you are interested in this water fall, it’s take about 30 min. from Old Chiang Mai city.
but, you need to walk around 400 meters to get the 2nd floor of the fall.
There’s not much water in the drought season, but still beautiful for a visit.

** You need to buy insect repellents, brings them lots and Don’t forget the Towel !**

[Long] Day Light VS Godox Strobes

Many, many thing Happened. – Lose some, but got some upgrades later.

Holiday session, again. BUT it’s our selected day-offs for 3 days.
My wife and I decided to spend the time in the resort on the mountain. We took days off on normal working days. As a result, we were the only ones at the resort.

We had our own naughty idea for a half naked/sexy photo session (again). And the unexpected event….
A WHOLE FAMILY WALK-IN !! And I don’t know what on earth in their mind.
There are 8 room at the resort. They selected the one that nearby our room. (WTF!)

The night time session was great

Yes, our privacy was running out. But, I had a reservation with the resort staff a month before. We wanted to take a photo – a sexy photo session. I already warned them before. After the whole family walked nearby, I warned them again. I have no regret. I was the one who undressed myself and dipped myself into the bathtub at my room’s balcony. I gave them a huge hint. I was going to take a photo and showed them all of my equipment.

O’ the sunshine and the fresh mountain breeze. Only Their bath tub and ours were separated by the white thin curtain. I command you to kindly leave for the sake of your children.
Okay, It works.

That was a set of 2nd day. First day was terrible annoying/arguing with the resort staff.
The weather was not friendly. You might see a shade of the mountain. A forest fire caused a haze.
Also believe it or not? These were taken around 11.00-13.00 O’clock.
The result of heat cause me an “error 01” for 24-70 f4L. (The cable was cut itself by a heat)
2 of 3 of my triggers cable also cut itself on that time (WTF.)
I ended up using Yongnou 568 exII hot-shoe flash as a trigger by enable Slave mode for my strobes.
all of this were taken by 70-200 F4L is (mainly). 50 F1.4 and the 24-70 worked only at 24 mm. length.

HAPPY TRIP ? MAYBE ….

3rd Day – all broken gears came back to life. Some seemed like they knew that would be their last farewell session. I’ve no regret, but enjoy last moment of my day time with it. since the eos RP are work well in day light, sharp fast focus speed it gave me a tons of images (I can show some, but not all of them XD)

That’s all.

Wait, I missed the night session 🤣 Just added them after I publish this

Thanks for reading, or interested in our blog. Now it’s time for me to save up some money for repair and buy a new pair of the trigger. Meanwhile finding a good place for the next session – soon ✌️😝

Now, I was promoted.

Cheers! my friend. I’m now fully working at the main department now.

Background story, I work as an aid of Researcher for years in Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. But honestly I prefer photography and PR (Which I studied for Bachelor’s degree). Yes I can do some of IOT and coding, but I couldn’t stand that most of my seniors left their duties on me when they couldn’t understand their tasks. So, I planed to resign.
Luckily I was moved to PR instead. Even though , they ask me for using my camera and computer, but I can do my task everywhere I want ( I usually remote to my PC at the office) as long as the task done on time.
Moreover, Friday beers also offered from my new boss, but I’m not prefer drinking- My boss allows me to leave early instead. ALSO, NO MORE monitoring the IOT parameter in Saturdays and Sundays.
I’ve gained back my weekend.

Let’s see how the power of Weekend’s is, lol.

Okay, I’ve been moving to the new department – and I just finish my training for a PR and also recovered from Corona-19. Missed you guys soooo much. See ya soon. XD
If you want to know I took a photo for these shot, feel free to ask me.

What I got from a pawn shop.

Image from a lens.

Long time no see, did you missed me ? (lol). I just went for a field work.
And there’s a pawn shop near by… guess what I found (A camera lens)

It’s a Yongnuo 50 f/1.4 II. That is a new condition, but it looks like to owner (of the pawn shop) Doesn’t like it much. He got some issue with the lens compatible with his camera – So! he sold me for 100 USD.
Yep, I gladly take it since my Canon 50 1.4 was cracked due to its age, so it was retired.

First, I look up for the issue and found that it needs an updated firmware for the later camera model (after 80D and 6D II). And we have to up date via this … (no dock need)

The micro USB port is installed with the lens. LOL what a design.
Much heavier and louder motor, but you’ll get 7 aperture blades and 9 lens pieces .
The motor is a normal one – remind you a 50 f/1.8II both speed and sound.
Try if you don’t mind it!
